The Legal Atlas

Every property transaction in the Turks and Caicos passes through an attorney. Title is registered, not deeded, so the lawyer who reviews the Land Register, drafts the agreement for sale and files at the Land Registry is doing the work that in other markets is spread across title companies, escrow agents and notaries. This Atlas gathers every firm and practising attorney in the islands into one sourced directory, so a buyer, seller or business owner can pick counsel with the same clarity the rest of the Atlas series brings to price.

Compiled 13 September 2026, last verified 18 September 2026. Every record names its sources. Corrections welcome: drew@thrive.tc.

Buying or selling in the Turks and Caicos? Your attorney matters as much as your agent. This Atlas sets out who practises here, what they do and how to reach them, so you can find the right firm for what you need.

How to read the Atlas

  1. Firms are listed once each, with the principal office first. Grand Turk practices sit at the foot of the table.
  2. The buttons on the left of each row call, email or open the firm site. A greyed button means that channel was not published. The email button already copies Drew in.
  3. Get in touch opens a ready-written message you can edit and send to the firm by email with Drew copied, or route through Drew on WhatsApp for a personal introduction. Either way the firm knows you came via the Atlas.
  4. Practice areas are the firm's own published areas, grouped into fourteen headings so they can be compared. Tap a heading in the filter bar to isolate the firms that offer it.
  5. The status column tells you how the contact details were confirmed. Firm site means the number and address were read from the firm's own website or a current ranking profile. Directory means they come from a third party listing and were not confirmed against a live firm site.
  6. The chooser turns three questions into a shortlist, generated from published practice areas rather than from anyone's opinion.
  7. Details expands the row to show the postal box, fax, key attorneys, notes and the sources used for that record.
  8. The Roll of Attorneys further down is the Bar Association's own list of everyone holding a practising certificate. Where this Atlas can tie a name to a firm from a published source, the firm is shown; otherwise the space is left blank rather than guessed. Just over half the roll is currently matched to a firm. Most of the unmatched names are Crown Counsel and other government lawyers, judicial office holders, in-house counsel, attorneys at practices with no web presence, and TCI-admitted lawyers based overseas, none of which publish a firm affiliation that can be verified.

Where the profession sits

Thirty of the thirty three practices are on Providenciales and nearly all of those are within a few minutes of each other along Leeward Highway and in Grace Bay. The remaining three are on Grand Turk, the capital, where the Supreme Court and the Land Registry's head office are. Tap an island to isolate its firms, or use the office list beneath the map.

Which kind of firm fits what you need?

Three questions. The shortlist is generated from the practice areas and published record in this Atlas, not from any opinion about who is better. It is a starting point for conversations, not a recommendation.

1. What do you need help with?
2. Who is instructing?
3. What matters most to you?

Track record: the cases, deals and firsts behind the names

A phone number tells you how to reach a firm. This tells you what it has actually done. Each entry is tagged independent where it rests on a court report, press coverage or Chambers' and Legal 500's own editorial, and firm reported where the only source is the firm's website or its submission to a directory. Both are worth reading; weigh them differently.

Roll of practising attorneys

The Turks and Caicos Islands Bar Association publishes the names of attorneys on the Roll who hold a current practising certificate issued by the Registrar of the Supreme Court and who are in good standing with the Bar Council. The list below is that roll as published on 13 September 2026, in the Bar's own order and spelling, with corrections supplied directly by practising attorneys since. Where a correction has been applied, the entry says so. Titles are the Bar's. Firm affiliation is added only where a source cited in this Atlas confirms it.

Common questions

Do I need a local attorney to buy property in the Turks and Caicos?

In practice, yes. Title is held under the Registered Land Ordinance and every transfer, charge and lease is filed at the Land Registry through an attorney admitted to the TCI Bar. Foreign counsel can advise you but cannot file. Both buyer and seller usually instruct separate firms.

Which firms set up companies?

Use the Company formation & management filter above, or answer the chooser's first question. Several firms run a separate licensed company management entity alongside the law practice, which handles incorporation, registered office, annual renewals and the regulatory registers; those are noted in each firm's details, with the person who leads that work where the firm names one.

How do I check that a lawyer is actually licensed here?

The Bar Association's roll in this Atlas lists everyone holding a current practising certificate. If a name is not on it, ask the person which firm they practise with and confirm with the Bar's secretary at secretary@tcibc.org before sending funds.

Which firms handle the most development work?

Chambers Global 2026 places Dentons TCI, Miller Simons O'Sullivan, Misick & Stanbrook and Stanbrook Prudhoe in Band 1 for General Business Law, with TMW Law (Twa Marcelin Wolf), Wessex Fairchild and Wilson Wells in Band 2. Its dispute resolution table ranks Ariel Misick KC, Conrad Griffiths KC, Tim Prudhoe KC and Stephen Wilson KC in Band 1. The track record section above sets out what sits behind those rankings. Saunders & Co publishes the longest list of resort development clients. Use the Development & resorts filter above for every firm that lists the area.

Why are some entries marked Directory rather than Firm site?

Fourteen of the thirty three entries have no live firm website that could be read for this study. Their numbers come from FindYello, TCI Mall or the US Embassy's list of attorneys, some of which date from 2014 to 2024. They are included so the picture is complete, and flagged so nobody treats a directory number as verified.

Is there legal aid?

There is no automatic right to an attorney. Legal aid is means tested and generally limited to matters carrying a sentence of two years or more, or where the person cannot pay. Applications go through the Bar Association, whose online form is linked from tciba.tc. F Chambers leads the Advocates Legal Group, the largest body of legal aid attorneys.

What happened to Griffiths & Partners and GrahamThompson?

Griffiths & Partners combined with Dentons in November 2025 and now trades as Dentons TCI from the same Cherokee Road office. GrahamThompson's TCI office, opened in 2012 by Stephen Wilson KC, became the independent boutique Wilson Wells at the same Graceway Plaza address and telephone number.

What has changed

Source data and methodology

Compiled 13 September 2026. The track record section draws on the Chambers Global 2026 General Business Law and Dispute Resolution tables for the jurisdiction, Legal 500 Caribbean, contemporaneous press reports and firm websites; every entry names its source and is tagged independent or firm reported. A TCI Financial Services Commission enforcement summary from November 2025 lists further practice names not otherwise traced (G.C. Clarke & Associates, Hamilton Hamilton & Co, Kingdom Chambers, Kobre & Kim (TCI), Phillipson D'Arceuil, R.D. Gardiner, Skippings and Skippings, Wilson & Associates); they are noted here rather than listed because no contact details could be confirmed. The firm list was built from four independent starting points and then reconciled: the Turks and Caicos Islands Bar Association roll of practising attorneys (tciba.tc), the Chambers Global and Legal 500 rankings for the jurisdiction, the FindYello and TCI Mall attorney directories, and the visittci.com lawyers guide (reviewed July 2026). Each firm was then checked against its own website where one exists; contact details marked Firm site were read from that site or from a 2025 or 2026 Chambers or Legal 500 office profile. Entries marked Directory could not be confirmed against a live firm site and carry the directory's details as published, with the directory named in the record. The Dentons combination is confirmed from Dentons' own March and November 2025 announcements and its TCI legal notice. The Wilson Wells succession from GrahamThompson is confirmed from wilsonwells.com. Practice areas are the firm's own published list mapped to fourteen common headings; no area has been attributed to a firm that did not publish it, which is why several directory entries show none. Attorney to firm links on the roll are drawn only from firm websites, the Bar Council biographies, the Chambers Global 2024 and 2026 jurisdiction tables and the US Embassy list; where a source shows an attorney at a different firm in an earlier year, the move is noted rather than silently overwritten; the roll itself does not publish firm affiliation. Telephone numbers are given in international format. Nothing here is legal advice, and nothing here is a ranking beyond the published Chambers and Legal 500 references.

Corrections supplied directly by practising attorneys are applied and marked as confirmed with the firm, with the date. Further corrections are welcome: drew@thrive.tc.
